The Waves
Landscape-Led Design Enhancing Coastal Setting and Heritage Context

Set against a backdrop of sweeping sea views and dramatic coastal scenery, The Waves development integrates seamlessly with its natural surroundings. Extensive soft landscaping, carefully positioned planting, and sensitive coastal detailing ensure that the built environment blends into the shoreline, enhancing both ecological value and resident experience. The outdoor spaces are crafted to frame the ocean, celebrate native vegetation, and create a calm, resort-like atmosphere throughout the site.
Morris Architects recognised the importance of responding sensitively to the site's historical context. The landscape design played a key role in the enhancement of Martello Tower No. 2. By removing the intrusive buildings that once encircled the tower, we opened up new public views and re-established a generous natural setting around this significant heritage asset. The restored tower now sits proudly within a revitalised landscape, becoming a focal point that enriches both the site and wider coastal experience.
To the north, two buildings were strategically positioned to form a respectful relationship with the Martello Tower, creating a landscaped open space that highlights the tower’s prominence. Set back from the road and seafront, the surrounding landscape softens the architecture and enhances long-range coastal views for the public.
