Overcoming design challenges to deliver contemporary, sustainable coastal residence.

Private Home 52

The design brief for this project posed a particularly challenging task, as the client requested a spacious 11,000 sq ft residence located in a prominent area that partially falls within the boundaries of the coastal national park.

Our proposed replacement house is carefully crafted to provide a contemporary and functional living space while taking into account the sensitive location on the edge of the national park. Through the use of a rounded façade and materials inspired by the local vernacular, we aim to showcase the available views while preserving the natural surroundings.

Our design incorporates passive solar principles to reduce energy consumption and optimizes the building's orientation to maximize solar gain. Additionally, our design prioritizes sustainability, utilizing features such as high thermal efficiency, air source heating, rainwater collection, and grey water reuse to minimize environmental impact.
